I do have other modules that handle this easily enough, and it really would be good to get this in OWS.

I understand the Email Action can send "From" any email address but it's actually sending out from the Host email settings.

This seems to be a problem as I have some Portals where the email is hosted elsewhere, so different IP addresses etc but the From address should be from this.

These emails tend to get caught in a lot of Spam filters, so I'd like to be able to set the Email Action (optionally) with other SMTP settings than being restricted to the Host.

Or is there another solution for this?

Still wondering on this... possibly if Advanced Settings could be introduced into the Email action to optionally send from different SMTP settings (such as using a query to gather stored SMTP settings).

Is there any reason this really shouldn't be needed? Is the single SMTP host settings really sufficient for OWS and what users should need it to do?

Would love to see this as well as I would use this a lot.

Using this more and more but the email functionality is currently extremely limited, only sending from the DNN Host SMTP settings - so From appears the same to me for ALL emails for ALL Portals!

I recently came across this which may be helpful:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libra...

It may only be SQL Server 2008 onwards though.

An older option, still currently supported is here:

I'm surprised more people aren't shouting for this! I use gmail and there's a 500 email per day limit per account so it won't be long before the OWS email function as it is becomes near useless.

A lot of my clients us Google as well as their SMTP server and they can't use their email setting for the host account. I am having to use my comcast email address so we can spoof emails but the biggest problem is a lot of times it gets flagged as Junk Mail.

Having said that, I would really love to see improvements to the OWS email functionality as well.
